Allen "Acky" Herr

Allen H. "Acky" Herr, 88, of 306 Walnut St., St. Marys, died on Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2011 at Pinecrest Manor.
He was born Sept. 22, 1923 in St. Marys, a son of the late Samuel and Mildred Claster Herr.
On Oct. 7, 1947 in St. Marys, he married Helen Kreckle Herr, who survives.
Mr. Herr graduated from St. Marys Area High School, Class of 1941. He served during WWII in the Army Air Force from 1943 to 1945, having served 34 combat missions over Germany as a top turret gunner on a Flying Fortress B-17. He owned and operated Allen's Sporting Goods Store on Erie Avenue from 1945-1962. In 1962, he joined his brother and they ran Sam's Mens and Boys Clothing Store together until their retirement.
