Anthony M. "Tony" Celin, Jr.
, 88, of 140 E. Oilwell Street, St. Marys, died on Monday, December 7, 2020 at Penn Highlands Elk following complications of Covid-19.
He was born on March 29, 1932, in St. Marys, a son of the late Anthony and Mary Bryan Celin.
On October 24, 1953 in St. Marys Church, he married the late Doris A. Sorg, who preceded him in death on May 31, 2012.
He is survived by one son; Joseph Celin and his wife Vickie of Emmaus, by one daughter; Amy Meier and her husband Ron "Butch" of St. Marys, by five grandchildren; Kristin (Steve) Plunkett, Tony (Jill) Celin, Sara (Ian) Paterson, Donnie (Kelsey) Meier, and Aaron Meier, as well as by three great-grandchildren; Joey, Madison, and Graham. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, including Gail (George) Shturtz, Gloria Banks, and Jim (Joanna) Zernell and their families.
Tony was a graduate of St. Marys High School and lifelong member of Sacred Heart Church, where he volunteered his time as an usher, for Bingo, and on the Bereavement Committee. He also was active with the Prayer Chain committee and was instrumental in the formation of the church group called Care and Concern. He retired in 1994 from Keystone Carbon Company after many years of service. He was a member of the St. Marys Elks, Sportsmens, Quarterback Club, and the Slovic Ethnic Committee.
Over the years, he served on Borough Council and recently retired from the Police Civil Service Commission. He was also part of the inaugural committee that helped form and build the St. Marys Ambulance building.
Following in his fathers footsteps, Tony repaired shoes for many years at Celin Shoe Repair. He continued the family business after his father retired and enjoyed both the trade as well as his customers.
Tony also liked hunting and fishing, and greatly enjoyed the friendships and memories he made with his friends in the Galeton Fishing Club. He was an avid Pittsburgh Pirates and Steelers fan, as well as Penn State football. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family and holding his great-grandbabies.
In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter; Antoinette "Toni" Celin.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial for Anthony M. Celin will be celebrated on Saturday, August 14, 2021 at 10:00 AM at the Sacred Heart Church, 337 Center Street, St. Marys, PA 15857 with Fr. Thomas Curry, Pastor, officiating.
Memorial Contributions may be made to the Christian Food Bank or to the Sacred Heart Church.
