Bernard "Bernie" Schreiber

Bernard J. "Bernie" Schreiber , 83, of 239 Ford Road, St. Marys, died peacefully on Friday, April 1, 2016 at his home surrounded by his family.

He was born on February 28, 1933, a son of the late Bernard and Caroline Schutz Schreiber.

On August 8, 1998 in St. Marys, he married Elizabeth Schloder Schreiber, who survives.

Bernie was a lifelong resident of the area and a member of Queen of the Worled Church.  He retired from St. Marys Carbon after more than 43 years of service.  He seved in the U.S. Navy from 1953-1957 during the Korean War.  He enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing cards and going to camp.  He also enjoyed traveling with his wife for the reunions of the ships he had served on during the war.  He was an avid woodworker and years ago was a member of the Colts baseball team.  His greatest pride and passion came from his garden, where he could always be found tending to his tomato plants.  His green thumb produced many crops that he enjoyed taking to the farmer's market.

In addition to his wife, Elizabeth Schloder Schreiber, he is survived by a son, Benjamin (Diane) Schreiber of St. Marys, four step-daughters, Amy (John) Timan of Port Matilda, Lori (Scott) Nearing of St. Marys, Roxanne (Steve) Skrzypek of Kersey and Tracey (Richard) DeCecchis of Johnsonburg, and by two step-sons, Dean Rupprecht of Morgantown, WV and Michael (Nancy) Rupprecht of St. Marys, as well as by 18 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.  He is also survived by a brother, Gary (Pam) Schreiber of St. Marys, three sisters, Alice Schreiber of Nashville, TN, Donna Palmer of St. Marys, anf Betty (Joe) Dickey of Johnsonburg.  He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and his second wife, Georgia Steele, he was preceded in death by a  son John Schreiber in 1972, a step-son, Cory Steele and by a brother, James "Pee Wee" Schreiber.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Bernard J. Schreiber will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 6, 2016, at 10:00 AM at Queen of the World Church, 134 Queens Road, St. Marys with Rev. Richard Allen, Pastor, officiating.
Full Military Honors will be accorded by the St. Marys Servicemen's Burial Detail.
Interment will be in St. Marys Catholic Cemetery.

Visitation will be held at the Lynch-Green Funeral Home on Tuesday, April 5, 2016 from 5:00 until 8:00 PM.

Memorial Contributions may be made to the Humane Society or to the Elk County Rides for Vets Program.
