Bertram L. Ovell

Bertram L. "Bert" Ovell, 84 of Longview Court, Weedville, died on Sunday, March 9, 2014, at Elk Haven Nursing Home in St. Marys following a lengthy illness.

He was born on February 12, 1930 in Weedville, a son of the late Ernest F. and Bertha M. Dodd Ovell.  On December 1, 1951, in Force, he married Lucille Farabaugh Ovell, who survives.

Bert was a lifelong resident of the area and a member of the Gardner Hill Community Church.  He had also attended Weedville Wesleyan Church.  He served in the US Army Reserves and retired from the construction business after many years as a heavy equipment operator.  He was a member of the George E. Wagner Masonic Lodge, where he also served as past master.  He was a past Boy Scout leader and a Civil Air Patrol leader, having been a private pilot for many years.  He greatly enjoyed the outdoors, especially flying, golfing, hunting, and fishing.  Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.  He was the last member of his immediate family.

In addition to his wife of more than 62 years, Lucille Farabaugh Ovell, he is survived by three sons, Robert Ovell of South Carolina, Michael Ovell and his wife Deb of South Carolina, Roger Ovell and his wife Nancy of St. Marys and two daughters, Debbra Heacock and Kathryn, Mrs. Jesse Bennett, both of South Carolina.  He is also survived by numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Bertram E. Ovell, who died on September 8, 1973, two brothers, Leon and Ernest Ovell and one sister, Clara Roberts.

Funeral Services for Bertram "Bert" Ovell will be held on Thursday, March 13, 2014 at 11:00 AM at the Weedville Wesleyan Church, 18945 Bennetts Valley Highway, Weedville, PA 15868, with Rev. Lewis Ovell, Bert's nephew, as officiant.
Military Honors will be accorded by the Bennetts Valley Honor Guard.
Interment will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery, Weedville, PA.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Wednesday, March 12, 2014, at Lynch-Green Funeral Home, 151 N. Michael Street, St. Marys, PA 15857.
In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions may be made to the George E. Wagner Masonic Lodge or to the Bennetts Valley Ambulance Association.
