Calvin L. Gardner
, 76, of St. Marys, died on Tuesday, March 27, 2018 at Broadmore Senior Living in Hagerstown, MD.
He was born on April 16, 1941, in Beaver, PA, a son of the late Ernest and Martha Hare Gardner.
He was married to the late Catherine Owens Gardner, who preceded him in death on May 2, 1987.
Mr. Gardner graduated from Beaver High School in Beaver, PA in 1959 and became a Journeyman Electrician at the St. Joseph Lead Company in Monaca, PA. He served in the US Army as an MP in Miesan, Germany, where he guarded the transport and storage of missiles and atomic weapons. He was honorably discharged in November of 1965 as a Specialist 4 and received a Good Conduct Medal.
After his service, he attended and graduated from Penn State University with an Associate's Degree in Forest Technology. He then worked with Clemson University Experimental Forest before returning to Pennsylvania. He has worked with a number of lumber companies in the Cameron and Elk Counties and last worked with Northern Hardwoods of Marienville, PA.
He was a dedicated member of the First United Methodist Church.
He is survived by a daughter, Barbara Ann Gardner of Johnstown, two brothers, Donald (Kay) Gardner of Asheville, NC, and Charles (Carol) Gardner of Reading, PA, and by his lifelong friend, Carl (Robin) Calfo of Middletown, MD.
In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Ernest Gardner and Byron Gardner.
Funeral Services for Calvin L. Gardner will be held on Tuesday, April 3, 2018, at 11:00 AM at First United Methodist Church, N. St. Marys Street, St. Marys, with Pastors David Vaughn and Tim Hoover officiating.
Interment will follow in the St. Marys Protestant Cemetery.
Military Honors will be accorded by the St. Marys Servicemen's Burial Detail.
Visitation will be held at the Lynch-Green Funeral Home on Monday, April 2, 2018 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM.
Memorial Contributions may be made to a favorite charity.
