Carl E. Hasselman

Carl E. Hasselman , 84, formerly of 636 S. St Marys Street, St. Marys, died peacefully on December 9, 2021 at the home of his daughter in Charlottesville, Va.

Born on February 20, 1937 in St. Marys, he was a son of the late Leo and Leona Friedl Hasselman.

On January 31, 1959 at Queen of the World Church, he married the love of his life, Angeline “Jeanne” Cuneo, who preceded him in death in 2009.  Together they shared 50 years of love, laughter, and happiness.

Carl was a lifelong resident of the area and member of St. Marys Church.  He served in the U.S. Army from 1956-1958.  He retired from Stackpole/Mersen after many years of service.  Over the years, Carl was very active with the Christian Food Bank, the Quarterback Club, and Midget and Flag football.  He also very involved with the St. Marys Recycling Center. Armed with an unending smile and true kindness, Carl never passed up a chance to give you one of his hugs and talk with you for a moment.

He is survived by four children; Susan H. McConnell and her husband Dr. Kevin McConnell of Charlottesville, VA, Mark E. Hasselman and his wife Sharon of Long Beach, MS, Karen A. Hasselman of Fairfax, VA, and Dr. Carl T. Hasselman and his wife Diedre of Oakmont, PA, by nine grandchildren; Kellie McConnell of Wash., DC, Christopher (Valya) McConnell of New York, NY, Dr. Stacie (Chris) Faulk of Kingsland, GA, Matthew (Laura) Hasselman of Biloxi, MS, Katherine (Scott) Werts of Raleigh, NC, Margaret (Dennis) Cody of Norfolk, VA, Maeve Hasselman of Nashville, TN, Paul Hasselman of Oakmont, PA, and Aine Hasselman of Oakmont, PA and by five great-grandchildren; Emma, Claire, Melody, Charlotte, and Adeline.  He is also survived by five siblings; Grace Jesberger of St. Marys, Ruth (Edward) Sloff of St. Marys, Alice Herzing of Lincolnton, NC, Mary Lou Luke of Austin, TX, and Thomas (Patti) Hasselman of St. Marys, a sister-in-law; Mary Hasselman, as well as by numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Paul F. Hasselman, a granddaughter; Ciara Hasselman, a brother; Robert Hasselman, and a sister; Jane Keller.  He was also preceded in death by several in-laws; Francis Herzing, Paul Jesberger, Richard Luke, and Lamar Keller.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Carl E. Hasselman will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, December 15, 2021 at the St. Marys Church, 315 Church Street, St. Marys, PA 15857 with Rev. Peter Augustine Pierjok, OSB, as Celebrant.

Military Honors will be accorded by the St. Marys Servicemens Burial Detail.

Burial will follow in the St. Marys Catholic Cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 14, 2021 from 5:00-7:00 PM at the Lynch-Green Funeral Home.
