Charles P. “Louie” Tahara

Charles P. “Louie” Tahara , age 63, of Kersey, PA passed away unexpectedly on December 20, 2020 at his home. Born in St. Marys, he was the son of the deceased Dr. Charles Tahara and Doris Fritz Tahara of Parade Street.

Louie is survived by his sisters, Sandra Miller, her husband Terry and daughter Amanda of Simi Valley CA, Joan Wylie, her husband John and son Matt of Pittsburgh, PA, Nancy Tahara and her son Alex of Kailua, Hawaii, Libby Herbstritt, her husband Marty, son CJ and daughter Rachel of Wilcox, PA, and his brother Dr. Martin Tahara, his wife Dr. Caroline, and daughters Hannah and Lily of Oakdale, MN.

Louie attended Gannon University and worked in many areas of our community. Starting his career he worked at Stackpole Carbon in their laboratory and then later accepted a position at Andrew Kaul Hospital as a security person  where he was proud to be working in the same building where his dad had treated hundreds of patients.  He continued to work at Elk County hospitals for over 15 years. Louie was also known as “Louie the Lunchman'' to many children while delivering to Head Start and the local senior centers and as a Vending Technician.  Louie ended his working years at Walmart in July 2020.

One of Louie’s most proud accomplishments was earning his black belt in Martial Arts. He would train anyone local that took interest. As years progressed, his passion grew for not only karate but to listening to each and every Steeler game!

The family will forgo an immediate service due to COVID-19, and will unite in the summer of 2021.
