Deryk M. Lunger , 29, of Bucktail Road, St. Marys, died unexpectedly on Thursday, December 30, 2021 at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh.
He was born on March 18, 1992, in Ridgway, Pa, a son of Michael Lunger of St. Marys and the late Pamelyn J. Kopp, who preceded him in death on May 3, 2015.
Deryk was employed by Penn Pallet for more than 10 years and had made many friends there over the years. A very intelligent person, Deryk was in charge of and programmed one of the most profitable machines at Penn Pallet. Whether at home or work, if he saw something that needed fixed, he never hesitated to jump in and help.
He was big supporter of Elk County Abate and was a member of the Elks Club. An avid Harley enthusiast, Deryk loved taking his Harley out for a ride. He was a son, brother, friend, hunter, and fisherman, and to some, a hero. Not only was he a great outdoorsman, but he loved to teach others about the outdoors. While he made have had a tough exterior, inside he had a soft side that children and dogs would simply treat him like a cozy piece of furniture to snuggle up against. Deryk was a friend to all and his legacy will live on in the hearts of everyone that knew him.
In addition to his father and step-mother; Michael Lunger and Laura Sorg, he is survived by a brother; Patrick Ednar of DuBois, his maternal grandfather; Joe Kopp of St. Marys, and aunts and uncles; Robynne (Mike) Jordan, Adam (Rebecca) Kopp, Mark (Fay) Lunger, David (Diane) Lunger and Diane (Kenny) Wolff. He is also survived by numerous cousins, as well as his special friends; Frank and Tammy Kuppelwiser and his beloved dog, Baja.
In addition to his mother, Pamelyn Kopp, he was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother and step-grandfather; Diane Cassels Schuckers and Franklin Schuckers, and by his paternal grandparents; Edward and Florence Johnson Lunger.
