Donald R. Bliss

Donald R. Bliss , 74, a resident of Elk Haven Nursing Home, St. Marys, and formerly of 113 Mary Street, Johnsonburg, died on Wednesday, October 25, 2017 at the nursing home following a long battle with Parkinson's Disease and cancer.

He was born on November 25, 1942, in Johnsonburg, a son of the late Verne and Esther McAnnich Bliss.

On July 3, 1965 in Sacred Heart Church, he married Kathleen Goodreau Bliss, who survives of St. Marys.

Mr. Bliss was a graduate of Johnsonburg High School, and served in the U.S. Navy.  He worked for Keystone Carbon Company and then retired from GE after many years of service.  He was a member of First Baptist Church in Johnsonburg where he had been very active over the years.  He was recently a member of Shiloh Presbyterian Church.  He enjoyed watching the Steelers and spending time with his family.

In addition to his wife of more than 52 years, Kathleen Goodreau Bliss, he is survived by four sons, Wayne Bliss and his wife Julie of Norfolk, VA, William Bliss and his wife Kelly of Johnsonburg, Timothy Bliss of Lebanon, Tom Bliss and his wife Joni of Camp Hill, and by one daughter, Janette Sage of St. Marys, as well as by eight grandchildren, Wayne Bliss, Cassie Bliss, William Bliss, Nicholas Bliss, Ashley Sage, Branden Bliss and Milena Bliss, and T.J. Sigler, and by one great-grandson, Gunner Sigler.  He is also survived by two sisters, Dorothy (Joe) Olewinski of Exmore, VA, and Mary Gasbarre of Johnsonburg, and by one brother, Dale (Catherine) Bliss of Johnsonburg, as well as by numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by six brothers, Harry, Ernie, Dave, Charles, Ed, and John Bliss and by two sisters, Martha Bliss and Shirley Bliss.

Funeral Services for Donald R. Bliss will be held on Saturday, October 28, 2017, at 11:00 AM at Shiloh Presbyterian Church, 217 Washington Street, St. Marys, PA 15857 with Rev. Scott Weist, Pastor, officiating.
Military Honors will be accorded by the St. Marys Servicemen's Burial Detail.
Interment will be in Parklawn Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be held at the Lynch-Green Funeral Home on Friday, October 27, 2017 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM.

Memorial Contributions may be made to Elk Haven Nursing Home, National Parkinson's Foundation, or to the American Cancer Society.
