Dorothy C. Heigel , 89, of 437 Wolfel Avenue, St. Marys, died on Thursday, March 6, 2014 at Elk Haven Nursing Home following a brief illness.
She was born on June 17, 1924, in St. Marys, a daughter of the late Frank and Eleanor Nissel Bauer.
On November 30, 1946, she married George A. Heigel, Sr., who preceded her in death.
Dorothy was a lifelong resident of the area and a member of the St. Marys Church. She enjoyed baking, cooking, and her annual trips to the beach with her family. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family.
She is survived by 2 daughters, June, Mrs. Andrew Sorg, of Benezette; Terri, Mrs. David Pfaff, of State College; a son, George Heigel, Jr., of DuBois; 8 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by 2 brothers, George Bauer and his wife Gloria; and John "Jack" Bauer and his wife Lois, both of St. Marys, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Grace Richards and Lorraine Wolfel and by 3 brothers, Harold, Floyd, and Clarence "Lefty" Bauer.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Dorothy C. Heigel will be celebrated on Monday, March 10, 2014 at 10:00 AM at the St. Marys Church, Church St., St. Marys with Fr. Thomas More Sikora, OSB, as celebrant.
Interment will follow in the St. Marys Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Sunday evening, March 9, 2014, from 5-8 PM at the Lynch-Green Funeral Home, 151 N. Michael St., St. Marys.
