Eleanor B. Newell , 87, a resident of Elk Haven Nursing Home and formerly of 118 Poplar Road, St. Marys, died on Tuesday, September 21, 2021 with her family by her side following a lengthy illness.
She was born on June 15, 1934, in St. Marys, a daughter of the late George and Bertha Prechtl Samick.
On June 25, 1955 in St. Marys Church, she married Ronald L. Newell, who preceded her in death on February 2, 2015.
Mrs. Newell was a lifelong resident of St. Marys and graduate of Central High School, class of 1952. She was member of Queen of the World Church and the Rosary Altar Society. She worked for the St. Marys School District for more than 25 years, where she greatly enjoyed her job as well as the friendships she made over the years. In her free time, she loved playing cards with her friends and watching the St. Louis Cardinals. Most of all, she loved to be surrounded by her family, enjoying every moment she could spend with them.
She is survived by one daughter; Carol Pearson and her husband Doug of Kersey and by four sons; Larry Newell and his wife Lorelei of St. Marys, Michael Newell and his wife Jean of Johnsonburg, Jeffrey Newell and his wife Chris of Kersey, and Edward Newell and his wife Jen of New Paltz, NY. She is also survived by seven grandchildren; Mike, Matt, Tim, Dan, Katie, Jessica, and Hailey, by seven great-grandchildren, by her son-in-law; Brett McCullough, and by her sister; Carol Sporner of St. Marys as well as by many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by two daughters; Mary in infancy and Cynthia McCullough in 2020, by six brothers; Maurus, Howard, William, Raymond, Gerald, and George Samick, and by four sisters; Jane Pollick, Alice Nasoni, Lillian Hillebrand, and Dorothy "Dixie" Newell.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Eleanor B. Newell will be celebrated on Saturday, September 25, 2021, at 10:00 AM at Queen of the World Church, 134 Queens Road, St. Marys, PA 15857 with Rev. Jeffery Noble, Pastor, officiating.
Interment will follow in St. Marys Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be held at the Lynch-Green Funeral Home on Friday, September 24, 2021 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM.
Memorial Contributions may be made to Elk Haven Nursing Home Activities Fund or to Queen of the World Church.
