Genevieve "Sue" Kronenwetter

March 6, 1923 — February 25, 2022

Genevieve “Sue” Kronenwetter, of 430 Maple St., St. Marys, died on Friday, February 25, 2022 at Pinecrest Manor nursing home after an extended illness.  She was 98.

She was born March 6, 1923, in Defiance, PA, daughter of the late John and Mary McIntyre.

On September 2, 1950, she married Roman P. Kronenwetter, who passed away in 2012.  She was also preceded in death by all her siblings: Mary, Elizabeth, Helen, Norbert, Samuel and Vivian.

Sue is survived by her four children: Jane M. Kronenwetter, St. Marys; Patrick J. Kronenwetter (Marybeth), Glen Ellyn, IL; Mark J. Kronenwetter (Anne), St Marys; and Rose M Gabbianelli (Richard), Pittsburgh, PA.  She is also survived by eight grandchildren: Craig (Becca) and Kevin Kronenwetter, St. Marys; Meghan (Byron) Rose, Bedford, PA; Joe Kronenwetter, Greenville, SC; Angelo (Beth) Gabbianelli, Lake Villa, IL; Dominic (Leslie) Gabbianelli, Atlanta, GA; Anthony (Janelle) and Alessandra Gabbianelli, Pittsburgh, PA, as well as six great grandchildren: Cassandra, Bianca, Luca, Lena, Chiara and Nico Gabbianelli.

During her high school years, Sue worked at her uncle’s medical practice in Johnsonburg.  She graduated from Temple University in 1944 with a degree in Liberal Arts Biology, serving in the Women’s Senate her senior year.  Sue then moved to St. Marys, where she was a medical technician at Andrew Kaul Memorial hospital.  She met her future husband while living in St. Marys, and, after they married, she was a stay-at-home mom until her youngest child was in first grade.  She then began a 25-year teaching career at Queen of the World elementary school, where she excelled as a teacher and kept a close eye on her children who attended there.  She was active in school and church activities and in the many pursuits of her children and her husband.  She had an incredible work ethic, teaching all day and putting dinner on the table every night for her family.  She then did lesson plans, graded school papers and cared for her home and children.

Besides her family and friends, the most important thing in Sue’s life was her Catholic faith.  While teaching, and for many years after her retirement, Sue attended daily Mass – first with her husband, and then by herself after he died.  In later years, when her mobility was compromised, she watched Mass every day on EWTN, as well as the Rosary and the Divine Mercy Chaplet.  Her belief in God was unshakable for her entire life.
