Gerald R. Sheley

July 7, 1946 — January 19, 2016

Gerald R. Sheley , 69, of 61 Dippold Avenue, St. Marys, died on Tuesday, January 19, 2016 at his home following an illness of the past few months.

He was born on July 7, 1946, in Olean, NY, a son of the late Maynard and Mercedes Haggerty Sheley.

He was married to Christine Fox Sheley, she preceded him in death.

Mr. Sheley graduated from Olean High School and then served in the U.S. Air Force from 1964-1968.  He worked at CG Graphite for many years, and currently at Buerk's.  He had a love for music and played in many bands, including Gypsy Rain and Cottonmouth.  For the past several years, he would sing Christmas carols at many places with the "Elfettes".  He was also an avid Steelers fan.  He was the best dad, PaPa and friend anyone could have and will be missed by many.

He is survived by a son, Toby (Joanne) Sheley and a daughter, Jessica (Pat) Bauer, both of St. Marys, four step-daughters, Missy (Vernie) Brennen of St. Marys, Nikki (Todd Celinski) Rothrock of Kersey, Jackie (Mike) Zuback of St. Marys and Connie Nelson of Roxbury, NY, by 12 grandchildren, Camryn Bauer, Derek (Meagan) Rothrock, Haley Rothrock, Jason (Shanelle) Brennen, Kayla Brennen, Anthony Moyer, Gracie Celinski, Rhia Celinski, Kayli Zuback, Bryce Zuback, Michael McAfee and Joe McAfee and by 6 great grandchildren, Blakelyn, Lilley, Brantley, Paisley, Harley and Bentley.  He is also survived by a brother-in-law, Rick Now Fox, his favorite sister-in-law, Pam (Steve) Fritz, a special friend, Alice Slade of SD, and by numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by a sister, Marilyn Sheley, a brother, James Sheley and by a brother-in-law, Tom Bob Fox.

A Memorial Service for Gerald R. Sheley will be held on Friday, January 22, 2016, at 11:00 AM at Lynch-Green Funeral Home.  The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until the time of the service.

Military Honors will be accorded by the St. Marys Servicemens Burial Detail.

Memorial Contributions may be made to the SMAHS Music Department.
