Geraldine R. Sorg
, 87, a resident of Pinecrest Manor and formerly of Elk Towers, St. Marys, died Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2017 at Pinecrest Manor following a brief illness.
She was born March 16, 1929 in St. Marys, a daughter of the late John and Mary Breindel Rupprecht.
On Oct. 28, 1950 in St. Marys, she married Thomas B. Sorg Sr., who preceded her in death June 11,1984.
Mrs. Sorg was a lifelong resident of the area and a graduate of Central High School. She was a member of Queen of the World Church and retired from ECCHS after numerous years there as a janitor. She greatly enjoyed Bingo and playing cards. She was an experienced quilter and embroiderer. She also enjoyed traveling, but most of all, she loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by two daughters, Donna May and Laura (Mike Lunger) Sorg, both of St. Marys; three sons, Jerome (Rose) Sorg of St. Marys, Thomas (Bette) Sorg of Colorado and Lyle Sorg of Pittsburgh; a sister-in-law, Ruth Rupprecht; 14 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two brothers, John "Jack" (Carolyn) Rupprecht of Pittsburgh and Norbert (Jill) Rupprecht of Truman; two sisters, Mildred Sweeney of Johnsonburg and Roseann Keenen of Clarion; as well as by numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Richard Sorg; a daughter, Irene Sorg; three brothers, Joseph Rupprecht, Edward Rupprecht and Leander "Moon" Rupprecht; and by five sisters, Helen Thompson, Ruth DeVivo, Frances Gabor, Marie Krug and by Gertrude Rupprecht in infancy.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Geraldine R. Sorg will be celebrated Monday, Feb. 13 at 10 a.m. at Queen of the World Church, Queens Road, St. Marys, with Rev. Eric Vogt, OSB, officiating.
Visitation will be held at the Lynch-Green Funeral Home on Sunday, Feb. 12 from 2-5 p.m.
Interment will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery.
