Harold A. "Rudy" Simbeck

Harold A. "Rudy" Simbeck , 80, of 177 Wehler Road, St. Marys, died on Sunday, September 16, 2012 following a lengthy illness.

He was born November 15, 1931 in St. Marys, a son of the late Charles and Estella Galmish Goodrow Simbeck.

On July 24, 1954 in St. Marys Church, he married the late Rita Mae Wendel, who preceded him in death on June 15, 2004.

Mr. Simbeck was a lifelong resident of the area and a member of Queen of the World Church.  He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1952-1954.  He received the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.  He retired from Carbon City after many years of service.  He was active and enjoyed participating with the Crystal Fire Department and the St. Marys Servicemen's Burial Detail, where he served for more than 43 years.  He was instrumental in the founding of Rides 4 Vets and dedicated a lot of time to the organization.  He served for many years on the board of directors for Elk County Children and Youth.  Together with his brother, they founded the Allegheny Mountain Battle of the Barrel.  He enjoyed attending local sporting events and could be found supporting our youths at area baseball and softball games.  He also enjoyed the outdoors, especially camping.  He also enjoyed playing cards and spending time with his family.

Sister-in-law: Margaret Simbeck, St. Marys
Numerous nieces and nephews and his extended family in Guatemala whom he had grown very close to over the years

In addition to his parents and his wife of 50 years, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Jason Scott Simbeck, one brother, Charles "Bud" Simbeck, and two sisters, Nadine Schreiber and Doris Sherry.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated at the Queen Of The World Church, 134 Queens Road, on Thursday, September 20, 2012 at 12:00 PM with Rev. Michael Ferrick, Pastor, as Celebrant.

Military Honors will be accorded by the St. Marys Servicemen's Burial Detail.

Burial will follow in the St. Marys Catholic Cemetery.

Visitation will be at the Lynch-Green Funeral Home, 151 N. Michael St., St. Marys on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM.
