Harry G. Thomson

October 12, 1942 — November 15, 2018

Harry G. Thomson , 76, of 106 Mark Lane, Kersey, PA and formerly of Chester, NJ, died on Thursday, November 15, 2018 at Penn Highlands Elk following a brief illness.
He was born on October 12, 1942 in Newton, NJ, a son of the late Harry and Elizabeth Young Thomson.
Harry attended West Morris High School in Chester, NJ.  He served 4 years in the U.S. Navy, where he earned his black seal boiler license. Afterwards, Harry became a Police Officer in Chester Borough, where he met his wife and had his daughter, Kathleen.  Later he became a tractor-trailer driver and owned a trucking company. One year he was famous among friends and family for driving the truck that delivered the Christmas Tree to Rockefeller Plaza in NYC. After years of driving around the continental US, he survived a bad accident
while driving, and started driving school buses instead.  He was a bus driver for the Mt. Olive School District and also worked at the Chester School District for some time as a custodian.
He loved to drive and took his mother and daughter on many trips with a camping trailer. His other passion was for shooting guns, and he belonged to gun clubs for target shooting with rifles and pistols for many years, which is what brought him to the Kersey area.  He enjoyed his time at the Ridgway Rifle Club and the Harrisburg Hunters and Anglers, and greatly enjoyed the elk.  He grew up and spent most of his life in Chester NJ.  After the passing of his mother, he took the opportunity to move to Kersey, PA as it was an area he went to frequently to see the elk.
Famous for his "dad"  jokes, teasing, and giving waitresses a hard time if they had Coke but not Pepsi, his common line in reply to "How are you?" was "Not bad for an old man."
Harry is survived by one daughter, Kathleen M. Gould and her husband Nathan of Denville, NJ, one grandchild, Tristan Gould, and by one sister, Eileen Crotsley of Middletown, DE.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
