Herbert J. Wolfel

Herbert J. Wolfel , 89, of 143 Skyline Drive, Kersey, died on Saturday, February 27, 2021 at his home following a brief illness.

He was born on May 12, 1931, in St. Marys, a son of the late John and Sabina Hasselman Wolfel.

In 1973, he married the late Lois Wolfel, who preceded him in death on March 3, 2008.

Herbert was a lifelong resident of the area and was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean War.  He retired from from Keystone Carbon Company after many years of service.  He enjoyed hunting and fishing, but will be remembered for the gunsmithing that he did over the years.  Over the years, he made and sold many gun stocks.

He is survived by one son; Kevin Wolfel and his wife Jennifer of St. Marys, one daughter; Debra Carte and her husband Dave of Alabama and by numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  He is also survived by one sister; Germaine Meyer of St. Marys as well as by numerous nieces and nephews and by four step-children; Sharon (Rick) Swanson of Kersey, Stan VanGorder of Punxsutawney, Eugene VanGorder of Port Allegany, and Sandra Urbanik of Nevada.

In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by a step-son; Gordon VanGorder, and by three brothers; Richard, Leander, and Gilbert Wolfel and by five sisters; Marlene Carnovale, Louise Walker, Rita Beers, Florence Johnson, and Virginia Struble as well as by two sisters in infancy.

A Memorial Service for Herbert J. Wolfel will be held on Wednesday, March 10, 2021at 11:00 AM at the Lynch-Green Funeral Home with Rev. Ross Miceli officiating.
Military Honors will be accorded by the Fox Township Burial Detail.
Interment will be in Parklawn Memorial Gardens.

Family and friends will be received at the funeral home on Wednesday, March 10, 2021 from 10:00 AM until the time of the service.
