Jeffrey W. Newell

April 5, 1958 — November 9, 2021

Jeffrey W. Newell , 63, of 166 Hayes Road, Kersey, died on Tuesday, November 9, 2021 at UPMC Montefiore Hospital following a brief illness.

He was born in St. Marys on April 5, 1958, a son of the late Ronald and Eleanor Samick Newell.

On May 9, 1981 in Queen of the World Church, he married Christine Detsch Newell, who survives.  With a love story that began many years ago in the school lunch line, together they shared more than 40 years of love, laughter, and happiness.

Jeff was a lifelong resident of the area and graduate of St. Marys Area High School, class of 1977.  He retired from Keystone after more than 43 years of service and was a social member of the Fox Township Firemen's Club.
An avid outdoorsman, Jeff greatly enjoyed hunting and fishing.  He could often be found woodworking or spending time in his garage.  He will be fondly remembered as a true jack of all trades, there was nothing he couldn't fix.
Armed with a strong will, endless perseverance, and an undying love for his family, Jeff worked hard, never gave up, and remained grateful, a sentiment that he often shared with others.  Always with a smile on his face, his positive outlook brought him through his worst days and he was always happiest with his family by his side.  He cherished every moment and memory with his entire family, especially his grandchildren.

In addition to his wife of more than 40 years, Christine Detsch Newell, he is survived by two children; Tim Newell and his wife Diana of Ridgway and Katie Shields and her fiance Jordan Anthony of Kersey and by 5 grandchildren; Jack, Jonah, Madelyn, Landon, and Olivia.  He is also survived by four siblings; Carol (Doug) Pearson of Kersey, Larry (Lorelei) Newell of St. Marys, Michael (Jean) Newell of Johnsonburg and Ed (Jen) Newell of New Paltz, NY, his mother-in-law; Regina Detsch, a brother-in-law; Brett McCullough, and by several brothers and sisters in law and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister; Cynthia McCullough.
