John W. "Jack" Hanes

July 1, 1929 — June 7, 2012

John W. "Jack" Hanes , 82, of 121 Poplar Road, St. Marys, died on Thursday, June 7, 2012 following a brief illness.

He was born July 1, 1929 in St. Marys, a son of the late Raphael "Ralph" and Kathryn Samick Hanes.

On April 15, 1999, he married Betty Dornich Erich Hanes, who survives.

Mr. Hanes was a member of Sacred Heart Church.  He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He retired from Keystone after more than 46 years of service.  He was a member of the American Legion and the Moose.  He had also enjoyed being a member of the Polka Boosters for many years.  He enjoyed going to camp and spending time at the Senior Center playing Wii bowling.  He also enjoyed his faithful dog, Roxy.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife Marion Fannin Herzing Hanes, whom he married on May 19, 1963.  She preceded him in death on March 7, 1998.  He was also preceded in death by:

2 Granddaughters- Caylee and Cara Hanes in infancy
4 Brothers: Lavern, Thomas, Casper and Paul Hanes
5 Sisters: Eileen Boylan, Calista Sorg, Iona Shields, Louise "Lucille" Meyer & Martha Hanes

There will be No Visitation .

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Mass of Christian Burial which will be Celebrated at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 325 Center Street, on Monday, June 11, 2012  at 12:00 PM with Rev. Eric Vogt, O.S.B., as Celebrant.

Military Honors will be accorded by the St. Marys Servicemen's Burial Detail.

Memorial Contributions may be made to Community Nurses Hospice Inc., 757 Johnsonburg Rd., Suite 200, St. Marys, PA 15857 or to a charity of choice.
