John C. VanSlander
, 76, a resident of Spring City, Pa, took his last Harley ride to glory on Monday, February 24, 2025. His loving family surrounded him during his lengthy illness.
He was born on March 26, 1948 in St Mary's, PA, a son of the late William and Bernetta Haberberger VanSlander.
John was a graduate of Elk County Catholic High School and went on to serve his country in the U.S.Army as a radio operator in Vietnam. He worked for many years and retired from the United Parcel Service. John thoroughly enjoyed his retirement and could often be found on some type of wheels. He was a lover all things Harley Davidson motorcycles, his numerous ATVs and RVs. He also enjoyed many Harley rides across the US to Sturgis, SD, Texas, various Harley rallys around the US, even riding as far as Alaska. John loved hunting and being in the outdoors. During his earlier years, John was an accomplished marathon runner, and an avid bicyclist. John enjoyed a good game of cards, and watching movies with his friends and family.
John absolutely loved his life and especially his family. His favorite phrase, that he used daily was, "LIFE IS GOOD!" John was adored by all who knew him. He could spark up a conversation with complete strangers and walk away with a new friend. John leaves a vast and lasting imprint on this earth. He was a magnificent man.
He is survived and cherished by his children; Eric (Sawaka Nagano) VanSlander of Silver Spring, MD, Stephanie (Nick) Bonanno, of Spring City, PA, Jonathan (Jill Campayno) VanSlander of Latrobe, PA, and his only granddaughter, Carlee Rae Bonanno of Spring City, PA. He also leaves behind his beloved 4-legged best friend - his dog, Bella. He is also survived by his brother; Bill VanSlander, Jr. of Force, PA, and by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and most wonderful friends.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his brothers; David VanSlander, William VanSlander, Jr., and by a sister, Sue Ellen VanSlander.
A Memorial Service for John C. VanSlander will be held on Saturday, April 5, 2025 at 11:00 AM at the Lynch Green Funeral Home.
Family and friends will be received at the Lynch-Green Funeral Home on Saturday, April 5, 2025 from 10:00 AM until the time of the service.
Military Honors will be accorded by the St. Marys Servicemen's Burial Detail.
John was a wounded Vietnam Veteran. Memorial Contributions may be made in his honor to the Wounded Warrior Project.
