Joseph R. Frey , 81, of 1135 S. Michael Road, St. Marys, died on Wednesday, January 28, 2015 at UPMC Montefiore Hospital in Pittsburgh following a brief illness.

He was born on May 28, 1933, a son of the late Albert and Julia Breindel Frey.

On September 15, 1956 in Queen of the World Church, he married Delores "Toots" Samick Frey, who survives.

Mr. Frey was a lifelong resident of the area and a graduate of Central High School, class of 1951.  He was a member of Queen of the World Church where he also served as a Eucharistic Minister and volunteered his time.  He served in the US Army during the Korean War.  He was discharged from the Army in 1953, and then went to work at Sylvania until 1957.  He then retired from Clarion Sintered Metals in 1998 after many years of service, and had belonged to many professional organizations over the years.  He was very active in the Cursillo Movement and had been part of the organization since 1971.  He retired from the Ridgway Fire Department after more than 33 years of service and was also a member of the American Legion.  He also volunteered for Hospice for Veterans, the Christian Food Bank and the Elk County Catholic School System.  He enjoyed square dancing and making balloon animals.  Joe's pride and joy was his motorhome, he greatly enjoyed travelling and had been to all 50 states.  He had also travelled the world with his wife, and together they toured many countries.  He was extremely proud of his family and his grandchildren, and loved spending time with them.

Numerous nieces and nephews

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Raymond Frey on September 9, 2003, 2 brothers, Norbert Frey and Mark Frey, and by a brother in infancy, Raymond Frey.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Joseph R. Frey will be celebrated on Saturday, January 31, 2015, at 10:00 AM at Queen of the World Church, Queens Road, St. Marys, with Rev. Richard Allen, Pastor, officiating.
Interment will follow in the St. Marys Catholic Cemetery.
Military Honors will be accorded by the St. Marys Servicemen's Burial Detail.

Visitation will be held at the Lynch-Green Funeral Home on Friday, January 30, 2015 from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM.


In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions may be made to Queen of the World Church or Elk County Catholic School System.
