Marie C. Hanes

Marie C. Hanes , 100, a resident of Elk Haven Nursing Home, and formerly of 529 Charles Street, St. Marys, died on Monday, January 18, 2016 at Elk Haven Nursing Home following a short illness.

She was born on October 21, 1915, in St. Marys, a daughter of the late Anthony and Eleanore Schneider Beimel.

On October 24, 1933 in St. Marys Church, she married Jerome "Red" Hanes , who preceded her in death on December 1, 1975.

Mrs. Hanes was a lifelong resident of St. Marys and a member of Sacred Heart Church.  She enjoyed taking care of her home, especially mowing the lawn and shoveling snow.  She also enjoyed her family and grandchildren.

She is survived by two sons, Jerome Hanes, Jr., and his wife Norma of St. Marys, Steven Hanes of MacDonald, and by a daughter, Kathryn Nelson, of Dormont, PA.  She is also survived by four grandchildren, Dr. Darcy Hanes and her husband Joe Martin of Beltsville, MD, Scott (Kathy) Nelson of Bridgeville, Curt Nelson of Dormont, and Dana Nelson of Bridgeville, by 3 great-grandchildren, Ryan Martin, Bryan Nelson and Kevin Nelson, as well as by a sister, Georgia Gradl of Kersey.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Helen Hanes and a brother Clarence "Sonny" Beimel.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Marie C. Hanes is being scheduled and will be announced at a later date.

Interment will be in St. Marys Catholic Cemetery.
