Mary Nicklas , 88, formerly of N. Michael Street, St. Marys, passed away on Sunday, February 19, 2023 at Pinecrest Manor following a lengthy illness.

Mary was born on November 2, 1934 in Johnsonburg, PA, a daughter of the late Andrew and Margaret Solomon Santaniello.

On June 5, 1954 in Holy Rosary Church, she married the late Earl C. "Snuffy" Nicklas, who preceded her in death on September 2, 2009.

Mary graduated from Johnsonburg High School and was a member of the St. Marys Church. She retired from Sylvania after many years of service. Mary was a talented seamstress who spent a lot of time over the years sewing and doing alterations. She also enjoyed walking, reading, and her rock garden. She also loved tending to her garden and cooking for her family, especially her famous spaghetti sauce.

Mary is survived by 6 children; Steven (Loretta) Nicklas of Ridgway, Julie (Rick) Bish of St. Marys, Christine (Roger) Bennett of AL, Leslie (Mark) Sporner of St. Marys, Mark (Veronique) Nicklas of TX, and Wesley (Lela) Nicklas of CO; and by 11 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.
She is also survived by 3 sisters; Cecilia Weaver of OH, Dolores (Bruce) Lindgren of Johnsonburg, and Rita Gahr of St. Marys, as well as by numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and her husband, Mary was preceded in death by a grandson; Brandon Nicklas, by 2 brothers; Tony Santaniello and Andrew Santaniello, Jr., and by 5 sisters; Ann Struble, Kathy Wilson, Betsy McClain, Valerie Santaniello, and Theresa Bauer.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Mary Nicklas will be celebrated on Thursday, February 23, 2023 at 10:00 AM at St. Marys Church, 315 Church Street, St. Marys, PA 15857 with Fr. Thomas More Sikora, OSB, as celebrant.

Burial will follow in the St. Marys Catholic Cemetery.

There will be no public visitation.


Memorial Contributions may be made to Pinecrest Manor Activities Fund or St. Marys Public Library.
