Mary Jo Zimmett , 72, of 124 Teaberry Road, St. Marys, died on Friday, September 17, 2021 at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh following an illness of the past 3 months.
She was born on December 25, 1948, in St. Marys, a daughter of the late Gerald and Helen Fritz Dorsey. She was a lifelong resident of St. Marys and was a graduate of Elk County Catholic High School, class of 1966.
On May 5, 2000, in St. Marys Church, she married Stephen Zimmett, who survives.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by two sisters; Patty Wellde and her husband Bob of Kersey and Jane Solic and her husband Glenn of St. Marys, and by one brother; Tom Dorsey and his wife Jeanne of Kersey. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews as well as by her aunt, Rita Landini of Brockway, who was always like a second mother to her family. Mary Jo loved her family dearly and always treated her nieces and nephews like they were her own.
She was an active member of the St. Marys Altar Society, was involved with the Faith Formation Program, and volunteered regularly at the Benedictine Gift Shop. She was also a faithful and dedicated volunteer for the St. Marys Parish Bereavement Dinners and the Christian Food Bank.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Mary Jo Zimmett will be celebrated on Tuesday, September 21, 2021, at 11:00 AM at St. Marys Church, 315 Church, St. Marys, Pa 15857 with Rev. Peter Augustine Pierjok, OSB, officiating.
Interment will follow in St. Marys Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be held at the Lynch-Green Funeral Home on Tuesday, September 21, 2021 from 9:00 AM until 10:30 AM.
In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions may be made to the St. Marys Church, Christian Food Bank, or to a charity of choice.
