Melvin L. Bauer

April 9, 1928 — February 18, 2021

Melvin L. Bauer , 92, a resident of Elk Haven Nursing Home and formerly of Bayberry Road, St. Marys, died on Thursday, February 18, 2021 following a lengthy illness.

He was born on April 9, 1928, a son of the late Henry and Louise Knight Bauer.

On February 14, 1953 in St. Marys Church, he married the late Dolores Dietz Bauer, who preceded him in death on November 23, 2016.

Melvin was a lifelong resident of the area and member of Queen of the World Church.  He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was the recipient of 2 bronze stars as well as a Purple Heart from his time in the service.
He retired from Babcock Lumber after many years of service.  He was a member of the American Legion in Weedville and St. Marys.
A talented woodworker, Melvin made many beautiful pieces over the years, including cabinets, tables, and clocks.  He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and always enjoyed spending time at camp.

He is survived by one son; Gary Bauer and his companion Kathi Bailey of St. Marys, by one daughter; Dellene Smith and her husband Thomas of Weedville, by four grandchildren; Thomas, Brian, Shelley, and Crystal, and by five great-grandchildren.  He is also survived by a brother; Glenn Bauer and his wife Peggy of St. Marys.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers; Lamar, Howard, and Donald Bauer, and by two sisters; Alice Meyer and Vivian Sobierajski.

A Visitation and Mass of Christian Burial for Melvin L. Bauer were held privately with the family.
Burial was in St. Marys Catholic Cemetery.
Military Honors will be scheduled and held in the coming months.


Memorial Contributions may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
