Myrna M. Elia
passed away peacefully at home with her family by her side, on Sunday,
November 7, 2021, in Southampton, New York. Myrna, a 35-year resident of Naples, Florida
was born March 8, 1934, in St Mary’s, Pennsylvania. She is the daughter of the late Leonard J.
Wickett and Dolores (Heiberger) Wickett. Myrna married her high school sweetheart, Louis J.
Elia, in 1952; he preceded her in death in 2014 after 62 years of marriage.
Myrna attended the University of Pennsylvania after which she ran the mortgage loan
bookkeeping department for Prudential Insurance in Philadelphia. She and her husband then
moved to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, where they raised their family, and she continued her life-
long commitment to community service. She was a substitute teacher, chairman of the St.
Joseph’s Church festival, volunteered at the hospital, and was both a boy and girl scout troop
leader. She was on the board of directors of the Crippled Children’s Society in Williamsport, PA,
worked annually for the United Way and helped raise funds for her children’s schools and other
charities.
Myrna was also actively involved in and enjoyed the arts, spending nearly a decade as an
actress with the Little Theatre in Mechanicsburg, as well as dabbling in oil painting and
sculpture. She loved attending the ballet, Broadway shows, visiting museums and art openings,
and encouraged her children to participate in and support the arts. After moving to Naples,
Florida in 1987, Myrna became involved in the community by serving on the board of directors
of the Friends of the Collier County Museums (FOCCM), for almost a decade. She also loved
supporting and attending the Naples Philharmonic, now known as Artis. Always interested in
good health and well-being, Myrna completed the New York City Marathon in 1995. She
enjoyed yoga well into her 80’s and loved to travel. Above all else she loved her family
encouraging her children and grandchildren to visit often and bring their friends; she was the
consummate hostess having grown up in a big family she loved a house full of family and
friends and made everyone feel welcome due to her warm, kind, and caring personality. She
was beloved by all who knew her.
She is survived by: her son, L. John (Vicki) Elia, daughter Celeste (Jeff) Wecker, four
grandchildren, Orvil Elia, Patrick (Veronica) Elia, Serena and Somer Wecker, and three great
grandchildren, Alex, Zoey and Hazel Elia. She is also survived by three siblings, Janice Wickett
Ruberto, Gary Wickett and Arlene Wickett (Donald) Vollmer. She was preceded in death by two
brothers, Brent and Lowell Wickett, and a sister Susie (Wickett) Pasquinelli.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests with gratitude that memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society.
