Phyllis A. Wingard

Phyllis A. Wingard , 81 of 383 Benzinger Road, St. Marys, died on Friday, March 21, 2014, at Penn Highlands Elk surrounded by loved ones following a courageous battle with many health problems.

She was born on May 3, 1932 in St. Marys, a daughter of the late Henry and Marguerite Cooney Wolfe.
On October 8, 1955, she married the love of her life, Phillip A. Wingard, who survives.

Mrs. Wingard was a lifelong resident of the area and a graduate of Central High School, class of 1950.  She was a member of the St. Marys Church and had been employed at Stackpole Carbon Company from graduation until the beginning of her most important role, motherhood.  She also spent many years managing her son's conveniene store, and enjoyed the time she spent there.  She had also worked part time for a while at Dixie Himes' Ceramic Shop.  She enjoyed puzzles, ceramics, and playing cards.  Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her beloved family, especially her grandchildren.


In addition to her husband of more than 58 years, Phillip A. Wingard, she is survived by 7 sons; Stephen (Mary) Wingard of St. Marys, Donald (Cindy) Wingard of St. Marys, William (Tammy) Wingard of St. Marys, Edward (Julie) Wingard of Ohio, Larry (Jean) Wingard of St. Marys, George (Martha) Wingard of St. Marys and Joseph (Mary Jane) Wingard of St. Marys, 3 daughters, Mary Ann, Mrs. Dennis Bush of St. Marys, Rose, Mrs. James Moore of Truman, and Marguerite, Mrs. Jason Hanes of St. Marys; 31 grand children and 7 great grand children.  She is also survived by 2 brothers, Gerald Wolfe and Leo (Patricia) Wolfe, both of St. Marys.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by 2 brothers in infancy, a sister and brother-in-law, Gertrude and Kenneth Luke, and a sister-in-law, Virginia Wolfe.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Phyllis A. Wingard will be celebrated at 12:00 PM on Monday, March 24, 2014 at St. Marys Church, Church Street, St. Marys, PA with Rev. Alfred Patterson, OSB, officiating.
Interment will follow in St. Marys Catholic Cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Sunday afternoon from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM on Sunday, March 23, 2014, at Lynch-Green Funeral Home, 151 N. Michael Street, St. Marys, PA 15857.
