Richard E. "Lardy" Friedl
, 84, of 104 West Theresia Road, St. Marys, died on Wednesday, May 21, 2014 at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh following injuries sustained from a car accident.
He was born on December 24, 1929, a son of the late Frank and Clara Zwack Friedl.
Lardy was a lifelong resident of St. Marys and a graduate of Central High School, class of 1947. He was a member of St. Marys Church and had been the owner of the St. Marys Insurance Agency and St. Marys Real Estate. He was a tax collector for Benzinger Township for several years and was also a Jury Commissioner. He served on the St. Marys Cemetery Committee, the Elk Regional Health Center Committee as well as the Community Nurses. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus. He loved to entertain and cook for his family and enjoyed feeding the birds. He also enjoyed joining his friends for coffee at McDonald's every day. He was a familiar face at Pinecrest and Elk Haven with his weekly visits.
He is survived by a brother, Francis Friedl of St. Marys as well as his special nieces and nephew who grew up living with him at the homestead, Andrew Pfeufer, Ruth Kosmiski, Jane (Robert) Bennett, Joanne (Michael) Condon and several other nephews and a niece.
He is also survived by 2 great nieces, Lynn (James) Floravit and Breanne Condon and 5 great nephews, Jason (Keli) Kosmiski, Troy (Angie) Bennett, David (Kaye) Bennett, Ian (Elizabeth) Condon and Devin Condon.
He is also survived by 3 great-great nieces, whom he adored, Rachael Floravit, Emma Kosmiski, Kaylie Bennett and a great-great nephew, Maddox Bennett as well as 2 sisters-in-law; Mary Friedl and Georgiann Friedl.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Edna Pfeufer, 2 brothers, Thomas "Peeper" Friedl and Gerard "Jerry" Friedl and a brother-in-law, Joseph B. Pfeufer.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Richard E."Lardy" Friedl will be celebrated on Tuesday, May 27, 2014, at 10:00 AM at the St. Marys Church, Church St., St. Marys with Rev. Alfred Patterson, OSB, officiating.
Interment will follow in the St. Marys Catholic Cemetery.
Visitaion will be on Monday evening, May 26, 2014 from 5:00-8:00 PM at the Lynch-Green Funeral Home.
Memorial Contributions may be made to the St. Marys Church, the Community Nurses or to the Elk County Catholic School System.
