Rita E. Uhl

Rita E. Uhl , 94, of 328 Evers Avenue, St. Marys, died on Tuesday, July 18, 2017 at Penn Highlands Elk following a short illness.

She was born on May 22, 1923, in St. Marys, a daughter of the late Nicholas and Matilda Smithbauer Young.

On May 24, 1947 in St. Marys Church, she married Norbert L. Uhl, who preceded her in death on October 15, 1976.

Mrs. Uhl was a lifelong resident of the area and a member of St. Marys Church.  Over the years, she was employed at Sylvania, Stackpole Carbon Company, The Daily Press, and at Elite Metal Products, Inc.  She was an avid Bingo player and also enjoyed reading and playing cards.

She is survived by two sons, Robert Uhl and Michael (Candice) Uhl, and by one daughter, Sandra (William) Rung, all of St. Marys.  She is also survived by 7 grandchildren, Renee Rung, Jodi Harlan, Melissa Uhl, Tonya Meyer, Melody Rung, Tiffany Babbitt, and Melinda Spangler, and by 12 great-grandchildren, Dylan, Tyler, Evan, Kennedy, Karli, Jonathon, Austin, Paige, Tiauna, Chase, Conner and McKenzie.  She is also survived by a sister, Mary Bauer, a brother, Tony (Jane) Young, and by a sister-in-law. Marie Young, all of St. Marys, as well as by numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by six brothers, Servanus, Joseph, Edward, Alfred, Richard, and James Young, and by two sisters, Anna Cheatle and Barbara Hanes.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Rita E. Uhl will be celebrated on Friday, July 21, 2017, at 10:00 AM at St. Marys Church, 315 Church Street, St. Marys, PA with Fr. Peter Augustine Pierjok, OSB, officiating.
Interment will follow in St. Marys Catholic Cemetery.

There will be no public visitation .
