Robert "Elvie" Hayes

Robert G. "Elvie" Hayes , 55, of 230 George Street, St. Marys, died on Monday, June 16, 2014 at his home surrounded by his loving family following a hard fought battle with cancer.

He was born on October 12, 1958, a son of the late Gerald and Jane Spangler Hayes.

On October 08, 1982 in Sacred Heart Church, he married Mary Nero Hayes, who survives.

Elvie was a lifelong resident of the area and a graduate of ECCHS, class of 1976.  He was a member of Sacred Heart Church and he was the owner/operator of Professional Desktop Publishing.  He was a member of the Trout Run and Rocky Run Recreational Clubs.  He loved going for rides on the Rhino and riding motorcycles.  He also enjoyed camping, fishing and having parties and cooking for everyone.  He will be fondly remembered for always helping others.  Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, especially his granddaughter.

In addition to his wife of more than 31 years, he is survived by a son, Daniel Hayes and 2 daughters, Gina Hayes and Ellie Hayes, all of St. Marys.  He is also survived by his beloved granddaughter, Raylin; a brother, Jack (Charm) Hayes of Kersey; 2 sisters, Janet Herzing and Mary, Mrs. Jeff Wolfe both of Kersey, his father-in-law, Ray Nero, of St. Marys, as well as numerous in-laws, cousins, nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his mother-in-law with whom he was very close, Jean Nero.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial for Robert G. "Elvie" Hayes will be celebrated on Friday, June 20, 2014, at 12:00 PM at Sacred Heart Church, Center St., St. Marys with Rev. Eric Vogt, O.S.B., officiating.
Interment will be in St. Marys Catholic Cemetery.
There will be no visitation.

Memorial Contributions may be made to the Community Nurses or to a charity of choice.
