Robert M. “Bob” VanAlstine , 73, of Wilson Road, St. Marys, died on Friday, January 14, 2022 with his loving family by his side.
He was born on January 17, 1948, in St. Marys, a son of the late Earl and Clara Ferris VanAlstine.
On October 11, 1969 in St. Marys, he married the love of his life, Judith Hanes VanAlstine, who survives. Together they shared more than 52 years of love, laughter, and happiness.
Bob was a lifelong resident of St. Marys and member of St. Marys Church. He served in the U.S. National Guard from 1966-1972. He retired from St. Marys Carbon after many years of service.
In his free time, he enjoyed camping, going for rides, and hunting with the guys, especially trips to hunting camp. A hero to his wife, children, and grandchildren, Bob always put his family first and made sure to teach them what it meant to love and be loved. As the foundation of his family, Bob’s legacy will live on in the hearts of his family, who will remember him as a true gentleman, his kind and loving demeanor always present in their lives. He cherished each moment spent with his family, and especially enjoyed going on family vacations. He was also fond of his late dogs. Elmer and K.C.
In addition to his beloved wife, Judy Hanes VanAlstine, he is survived by one son; Frank Van Alstine and by five daughters; Maria Donachy and her husband Bob, Debbie Abrahamson and her husband Rick, Cindy (Tom Zelinski) VanAlstine, Patty Jo Wolfe and her husband Duane, and Angie Johnston and her husband Rob, all of St. Marys. He is also survived by his grandchildren, the lights of his life, Brittney (Zac) Wolfe, Dustin Fox, Dylan (Heather) VanAlstine, Kyle VanAlstine, Ashlee (Nick) Agosti, RJ (Jackie Lenze) Johnston, Lucas Feidler, and Tyler and Owen Zelinski and by his great-grandchildren who affectionately called him Papa Buster; Izabella, Waylon, and Paisley VanAlstine and Jonah and Jasper VanAlstine. He is also survived by his his brother-in-law; Willie Hanes. seven siblings; Vernon (Jan) VanAlstine, Sandy (George) Ehrensberger, Linda Schwabenbauer, Regis VanAlstine, Keith VanAlstine, Connie (Skip) Heeter, Jackie (Ron) FinGado as well as multiple nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and his in-laws; Paul and Rita Hanes, he was preceded in death by a grandson in infancy, baby Bobby VanAlstine.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Robert M “Bob” VanAlstine will be celebrated on Wednesday, January 19, 2022 at 11:00 AM at the St. Marys Church, Church Street, St. Marys, PA 15857 with Rev. Peter Augustine Pierjok, OSB, as celebrant.
Military Honors will be accorded by the St. Marys Servicemen’s Burial Detail.
There will be no public visitation.
