Ronald L. Newell

Ronald L. "Ron" Newell , , 84, of 118 Poplar Road, St. Marys, died on Monday, February 2, 2015 at Pinecrest Manor following a lengthy illness.

He was born on June 18, 1930, a son of the late Alton and Leona Hoffman Newell..

On June 25, 1955 in Queen of the World Church, he married Eleanor Samick Newell, who survives.

Ron was a lifelong resident of the area and a member of Queen of the World Church.  He served in the U.S. Navy from 1950-1954 during the Korean War.  He retired from National Fuel as a District Foreman after more than 37 years of service.  He was a member of the American Legion and the Campowner's Association.  He was very proud of his model railroad and was well known for being called on to sharpen saw blades.  He was also an avid woodworker, a craftsmanship he passed on to his sons.  Most importantly, he was a loving husband, father and grandfather who enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren.

In addition to his Wife of nearly 60 years, Eleanor Samick Newell, he is survived by:

7 Grandchildren - Mike, Matt, Tim, Dan, Katie, Jessica and Hailey

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter at birth, Mary, and by 2 brothers, Lajoy and Gerald Newell.

A Mass of Christian Burial for  Ronald L. Newell will be celebrated on Thursday, February 5, 2015 at 12:00 PM at the Queen of the World Church, 134 Queens Road, St. Marys, with Rev. Richard Allen, Pastor, officiating.
Military Honors will be accorded by the St. Marys Servicemen's Burial Detail.
Interment will be in St. Marys Catholic Cemetery.

Visitation will be on Wednesday evening at the Lynch-Green Funeral Home from 5:00-8:00 PM.


Memorial Contributions may be made to Queen of the World Church or to Pinecrest Manor.
