Rose G. Newell , 90, of Raleigh, NC and formerly of St. Marys died on Saturday, March 16, 2013 at Wake Medical Center in Raleigh, North Carolina.
She was born May 8, 1922 in St. Marys, a daughter of the late Andrew and Mary Eckert Buerk.
On September 30, 1947 in St. Marys Church, she married the late Mack L. Newell , who preceeded her in death on February 23, 2007 after nearly 60 years of marriage.
Mrs. Newell was a graduate of Central Catholic High School, class of 1940 and had been a member of St. Marys Church. She had worked at St. Marys Carbon in the 1940's. After moving to Raleigh, she became a member of St. Raphael's Catholic Church in Raleigh where she also worked for many years. She enjoyed spending time with her church friends there as well. She then worked at the Spring Moor Retirement Home in Raleigh for a number of years. She was a loving and devoted mother who had a very strong Catholic faith and was known to pray the rosary and attend mass daily. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, cooking and baking, especially cakes and cookies.

6 brothers: Andrew, Edward, Carl, Philip, and Roman Buerk and John Buerk in infancy
3 sisters: Dorothy Reed, Mary Gier and Mary Buerk in infancy
There will be No Visitation.
Relatives and friends of Rose G. Newell are invited to attend a Memorial Mass of Christian Burial which will be Celebrated at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 325 Center Street, St. Marys, on Saturday, April 6, 2013 at 10:00 AM with Rev. Eric Vogt, O.S.B., as Celebrant.
Burial will be held at the convenience of the family.
