Roseanne Gorton

Roseanne Gorton, beloved mother, died Saturday, June 7, 2014 at the age of 69 after a courageous battle with sarcoma.

She was surrounded by her five daughters and close family members and friends. Her profound love, unconditional support, and gentle manner will be sorely missed by those closest to her.

Roseanne was born in 1945 to the late Barbara and Harry Hannibal. She has an older brother, Alan Hannibal; a sister, Lora Johnson; and a very sweet baby sister, Mary B. Hannibal, for whom Roseanne has been devoted to caring for for many years.

She carried an older brother, David Hannibal, in her heart, who died tragically at the age of 18.

In 1965 she married her sweetheart, Allen "Fatty" Meyer, and together they had five daughters - Amy Bowser, Paula Cooper, Anna Lewis, Angela Meyer and Jessica Wright. After Allen's untimely death in 1981, she demonstrated incredible strength and courage as she went on to raise her children on her own. Her pride in her children was extraordinary.

She was again blessed with the gift of love when she met and married Dick Gorton in 1991. Dick brought tremendous joy into her life as well as three additional daughters, Linda, Lisa and Shirley. After Dick's unexpected death in 2001, Roseanne devoted the remainder of her life to caring for and being with her family, friends, and many, many grandchildren. Her gentle soul touched all who knew her and she will be missed every moment.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Roseanne Gorton will be celebrated on Wednesday, June 11 at 11 a.m. at the St. Mary's Church, Church Street, St. Marys.

Visitation will be held Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Lynch-Green Funeral Home, 151 North Michael Street, St. Marys.
