Ruth A. Goetz

Ruth A. Goetz, 93, a resident of The Lutheran Home at Kane, and formerly of Houston Road, St. Marys, died peacefully early Thursday morning, November 4, 2021.

She was born on May 15, 1928, in St. Marys, a daughter of the late Clarence and Gertrude Klausman Decker.

On February 15, 1955, in the Sacred Heart Church, she married the late Donald E. Goetz, who preceded her in death on November 1, 2019.

Ruth was a lifelong resident of St. Marys, growing up in the “German House” with her parents and grandmother, Catherine Klausman. She was a graduate of the Central Catholic High School, class of 1946. Prior to marriage and becoming a homemaker, she worked for Sylvania.  Ruth, along with her sister Cookie, spent seventeen years, retiring in 1999, volunteering at the Sacred Heart Church where they cleaned the sacristy. It was work that she enjoyed doing and often enlisted the help of daughters. She enjoyed playing cards, doing puzzles, reading, and singing to her friends at the Lutheran Home. She enjoyed swimming with her friends at the Memorial Park Pool. She also loved to bake goodies for her husband Don’s lunch pail.  She will fondly be remembered by her favorite catch phrase “See Ya Later, Alligator”.

She is survived by four daughters; Kathleen (Randy) Barber of Saegertown, PA, Jean (Jim) Hall of Yuma, AZ, Amy Goetz of Burnsville, WV and Carla (Jeff) Poklar of St. Marys, by four grandchildren and two great grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister-in- law; Thomasine Decker of St. Marys, a brother and sister-in-law, Roger and Kay Goetz of Cheektowaga, NY, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Thomas, by one brother, William H. Decker, and by one sister, Corinne “Cookie” Kuntz. She was the last member of her immediate family. The Goetz girls send their heartfelt thanks to our LHK family for the care and love Ruth received.

A mass of Christian Burial for Ruth A. Goetz will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Friday, May 20, 2022 at St. Marys Church, 315 Church Street, St. Marys, PA  15857 with Rev. Peter Augustine Pierjok, OSB officiating.

Interment will be in the St. Marys Catholic Cemetery.
