Steve Scanish, Jr
., 71, of 675 Brandycamp Road, Kersey, died on Sunday, October 18, 2015 at his home following a brief illness.
He was born on March 19, 1944, in Baumertown, a son of the late Steve and Katherine Watkavitch Scanish.
On May 1, 1965 in Holy Rosary Church, he married Kathleen Gigliotti Scanish, who survives.
Steve was a lifelong resident of the area and a graduate of Ridgway High School, class of 1962. He served in the U.S. Army Reserves from 1962-1970. He was a member of the St. Boniface Church and retired from Keystone Carbon Company after more than 44 years of service. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and working on his farm. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family, especially his granddaughters.
In addition to his wife of more than 50 years, Kathleen Gigliotti Scanish, he is survived by a daughter, Michele (Dean) Challingsworth of Kersey, a son, Steve Scanish, III, of Kersey and by two granddaughters, Kayla and Briana Challingsworth. He is also survived by a brother, John Scanish of Kersey and a sister, Elizabeth (John) Nearing of Wilcox.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Anna Carlson and Rosemary Schaut.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Steve Scanish, Jr. will be celebrated on Thursday, October 22, 2015, at 10:00 AM at St. Boniface Church, Main Street, Kersey, with Rev. Ross Miceli, Pastor, officiating.
Interment will be in Holy Rosary Cemetery.
Military Honors will be accorded by the Fox Township Burial Detail.
Visitation will be held at the Lynch-Green Funeral Home on Wednesday, October 21, 2015 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM.
