Thomas H. Hnath

November 24, 1929 — December 10, 2013

Thomas H. Hnath, 84, formerly of 121 West Oilwell Street, St. Marys, died on Tuesday, December 10, 2013 at Pinecrest Manor following a series of illnesses of the past few months.

He was born November 24, 1929 in St. Marys, a son of the late Joseph and Mary Bures Hnath.

On January 15, 1950 in St. Marys Church, he married the late Grace M. Hnath, who preceded him in death on November 28, 2009.


Mr. Hnath was a lifelong resident of the area and a member of St. Marys Church.  He retired from Stackpole Carbon Company after more than 40 years of service.  Tom was a baseball and softball left-handed pitcher and played with the local Bluebirds team.  He was also an accomplished bowler, having received many trophies with his wife Grace in the couples league and individually at the Olympic Lanes and the CMF.  He enjoyed sports, music, and Elvis impersonators.  He also enjoyed the Pittsburgh Pirates and Steelers.  His had a passion for jigsaw puzzles, which he could be found working on daily.  With his Pinecrest family, he played Cinch and enjoyed bingo as well as other planned activities.  Most of all, he enjoyed his family.  His grandson and great-grandchildren were his pride and joy.

Numerous nieces and nephews

In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Joseph and Robert "Zeke" Hnath.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Thomas H. Hnath will be Celebrated at the St. Mary's Catholic Church, Church Street, St. Marys, on Friday, December 13, 2012  at 12:00 PM
with Rev. Thomas More Sikora, O.S.B., as Celebrant.

Burial will be in the St. Marys Catholic Cemetery.

Visitation will be at the Lynch-Green Funeral Home, 151 N. Michael St., St. Marys on Thursday evening from 5-8 PM.
